About this event
Clarens’ creative long weekend
The Clarens Arts Festival has officially announced its 2027 dates: Friday, 23 April to Monday, 26 April. The annual event draws visual artists, writers, musicians, actors, thinkers and curious visitors into venues around the village, where a coffee stop can sit comfortably between an exhibition and a book discussion.
The detailed 2027 programme had not been published when this page was prepared. Previous festivals have combined visual art, theatre, dance, live music, poetry, literature, workshops, children’s activities and excursions, with work presented in Afrikaans, English and Sesotho. That history is a useful guide to the festival’s breadth, but individual 2027 names and sessions should only be added once the organiser announces them.
Why book early
The festival turns a compact town into a multi-venue cultural programme. Central rooms reduce the need to drive between sessions and let you adjust plans when an irresistible talk appears on the other side of the square. Accommodation near the village centre is therefore usually the first to become scarce.
Planning before the programme lands
Reserve cancellable accommodation for 23–26 April if you want a central base.
Subscribe to official updates and wait for the programme before buying transport around specific sessions.
Leave gaps between events; Clarens streets, galleries and cafés are part of the experience.
Pack layers for cool autumn mornings and evenings.
Check accessibility with each venue when the final schedule is released.
Editorial note: the dates are confirmed on the official festival website. Daily opening and closing times, artists, venues and ticket prices are still pending; this page deliberately avoids recycling the 2026 line-up as if it were the 2027 programme.
Build a broader Clarens itinerary
Pair festival sessions with a short nature walk, a gallery circuit and at least one meal you did not schedule tightly enough. Four days sound generous until the programme arrives. Then, mysteriously, lunch becomes a logistical discipline.
