The area around Clarens and Golden Gate is prime horse-riding country: open grasslands, farm tracks and mountain footpaths that have been used by Basotho horsemen for centuries. On a clear day, rides in the direction of Golden Gate offer views of some of the most spectacular sandstone formations in southern Africa, including the iconic Brandwag Buttress and the sentinel peaks of the Maluti range.
