Clarens Conservancy Hiking Trails

The Clarens Village Conservancy (CVC) manages a network of seven beautifully waymarked hiking trails that wind through the hills, kloofs, dams and grasslands immediately surrounding the village — all accessible on foot from the town centre. Whether you have 30 minutes or a full afternoon, there is a trail perfectly suited to your pace and fitness level. The trails traverse some of the most spectacular sandstone scenery in the Eastern Free State: exposed rock faces streaked ochre and burnt orange, stream-fed forest pockets thick with ferns and yellowwood, open grassland humming with birds, and panoramic viewpoints across the Maluti Mountains to Lesotho. The CVC gate on Hill Street gives access to most trails. Guided walks are also available through the Conservancy.
