There Is So Much To The Golden Gate National Park

Allow nature to restore you at the Golden Gate National Park, which derives its name from the golden light cast on its sandstone building from the sun illuminating its sandstone cliffs providing the nature reserve with its golden aura.

But of course there’s way more to the world renowned Golden Gate National Park situated in the Eastern Free State just 22km from the town of Clarens. It is indeed the best place to visit whether you are making a stop or staying overnight, as it caters to everything you may need such as accommodation of hotel room, suites or chalets and plenty of outdoor activity associated with the town, horse riding, abseiling, white water rafting, quad biking and golf, hiking and bird watching.

And it is also here within the vicinity that the Cultural Basotho Village nestles and tourists come from near and far to experience the lifestyle and traditions of the Basotho people. Come sip on traditional beer, or enlighten yourself on a hike up the mountain with a traditional healer who will inform you on the various plants that are used for healing. The village also offers accommodation of a Rest Camp where animals graze about just close enough allowing game viewing to be practically enjoyed by guests at their Restcamp.

Other types of accommodation at the Golden Gate National Park are the Golden Gate Hotel and Glen Reenen Restcamp that offers a variety of Rongdavels, Longdavels, family cottages and a farm house and the Highlands Mountain Retreat, a luxury camp with 8 log cabins.

And since the Golden Gate is a nature reserve you can expect animals such as Black Wildebeest, Eland, Blesbok, Oribi, Springbok and Burchell’s zebra grazing its wild and rare bearded vultures circling the skies.
