It’s a time to put away the technological gadgets for the time being at least and become one with nature. And while you’re spending time on your much needed getaway why not go camping to really enhance your experience of the beautiful blessings that Mother Nature has bestowed on the province of the Eastern Free State.

And you can visit these campsites to experience what camping in the Free State is about;

Bergwoning Guest and Adventure Farm

Go camping in the Free State in this secluded mountainside, campsite. Nestled between the mountains and next to the dam, it’ll take your breath away.

The Farm is 16km from Clarens and is situated in a tranquil valley with a campsite for 25 people to ensure a peaceful camping stay and experience.

Enjoy serene dams and mountain walks, birding and fishing or the more extreme activities of abseiling, bugxter rides, quad biking, mountain bikes, mountain bikes trails, 4X4 route, paintball and horse riding. There are ablution facilities and power points are available as well as a camp kitchen.

Meiringskloof Nature Reserve

Is in Fouriesburg and consists of self-catering sandstone chalets and caravan camping facilities located in a beautiful kloof surrounded by sandstone cliffs with open caves, thick indigenous bush and abundant bird life.

To preserve the natural surroundings only a limited number of chalets and caravan camper sites have been developed and it’s advisable to book well in advance for long weekends and school holidays.

Glen Reneen Rest Camp

Is situated at the Golden Gate Highlands National Park and is a caravan and camping site in beautiful shaded grounds, with ablution and barbeque facilities, a scullery and power points in ablution block and some campsites.

A maximum of six persons, per caravan or tent and one vehicle or one auto villa permitted per site. Activities include Rhebok Hiking Trail for two days and one night and it’s a maximum of 18 persons per group. Hikers provide all own necessities. And short nature trails varying from 1 to 5 hours, no bookings required.

Game viewing at leisure in own vehicle, holiday programmes are conducted during the April and December holidays. Enquire at reception. Environmental education courses varying from 1 to 5 days, bowls, tennis, table tennis and snooker at the hotel and horse riding is available.
